When two seas join together with three mountain ranges, a paradise is born and it gathers such particular natural conditions and privileged resources. That is Colombia, a country with more than two million kilometers of landing and sea territory extension and almost every possible climate around the planet. As a consequence of its geographical position, nearby the Equator, and its particular topography, Colombia’s climate does not depend on the seasons but on the height of its diverse regions or thermal floors. This fact has enabled the survival of 311 types of continental and coastal ecosystems and close to 55.000 fauna and flora species, making Colombia one of the 17 most diverse countries in the world, and the most diverse country per square meter on earth.

Furthermore, 70% of Colombian soils are ideal for agribusiness. This implies that the country currently enjoys 22 million hectares suitable for agriculture, 15 million hectares for cattle raising and almost 48 million hectares available for forestry plantations. Indeed, Colombia is the third nation in South America in amount of seeded fruit tree hectares, with almost 10% of its cultivable land.

Aside from the great climate variety, the Colombian country comprises a great strategic advantage against floriculture: the crops grow in the highlands, covering from the sea level to 2.800 feet high. This is the equivalent to 95% of Colombian soil. That is why it can be said that Colombia can seed five times the land area that it actually grows, which means it has an agricultural potential of 30 million hectares –almost a quarter of Colombia’s total continental and  insular extension.

Moreover, optimal cattle rising lands have been seized and in 2012 the country’s bovine stock exceeded the number of 22 million animals. With a production of almost a million tons of meat in the same year, Colombia ranked 4th in Latin America in this sector. Taking into account that, according to FEDEGAN, 99% of Colombia’s cattle is grass fed, that great genetic improvements for these cattle races have been accomplished and that the tropical conditions of the country help to improve the quality of the livestock, Colombian cattle products show the potential to become a world quality model.

Colombian country is also looking for peace and security, which affects, at the end, to the quality guarantee of its products as well as its ability to supply both internal and external demand. Indeed and because of the above mentioned, Colombian products such as coffee, cocoa, flowers and emeralds have gained relevant world recognition.

Besides, Colombia is exploring sustainable production of nontraditional farming, such as Goldenberry, the most exported fruit of the country –after Banano- which reaches more than 20 countries. Next on export volume is the Passiflower, which increased its exports in almost five times for the last years.

Colombia’s agribusiness potential is not only that of its products’ exports, but also its transformed materials gained ground within the country’s productive advantages. It is already demonstrated that processed fruits, for example, enjoy a high added value and meaningful advantages for consumers’ health. Currently, the market of processed fruits in Europe is increasing. The same fact occurs for the cosmetic sector, which reaches more than 40 countries nowadays. It aims that, for 2032, Colombia will become a world leader in healthy and sustainable-processes-made cosmetic production and exportation.
